It's not as cheap as R134 but you can still get the R12 on ebay. You have
to take an online course to get an EPA # certificate. It cost about $30
bucks and takes about 30 minutes. Basically the EPA wants to drill into
your head that releasing Freon into the atmosphere is bad. And make you
promise to never do it.

Well, my A/C is finally fading into non-existence. It still can get
me a little colder than ambient, but not a whole lot. Still, it
lasted 18 years and 200k miles.

What is everyone doing these days for A/C? Are you still finding R12
and getting someone to charge it? Is there a conversion or a
substitute refrigerant that actually works and is safe?

I'm way out of the loop on this, I appreciate the help.

Also, not sure if it ever got to the list, but my 91T is back on the
road. You might recall (or not) that I blew the original, stock HG at
200,100 miles. Not bad for a turbo. While weighing my options, my
father decided to take the problem into his own hands and bring it to
his friend's body shop, who presumably sent it wherever they push out
engine repairs. I was skeptical, but the price was right ($FREE) and
it's running very well in the 6 or so months that I've had it back.
It took almost a year to fix, as it was a side project for them, but
so far so good.

       Ed, 91T
