Here's my $.02:
1) I've heard that the HKS is very good. I have a Cometic metal head
gasket and I have been very happy with it so far. I've heard good
things about their products. One minor thing to note was that they
had a rivet placed in a bad location (clashed with the head and block)
so they suggested that I remove it. I did and no problems, but it was
initially concerning. I think they are revising the design (or may
have done it already - I bought it back in '04).
2) I too have the ARP head studs. Highly recommended.
3) As was said below, it depends on how handy you think you are and of
course how much time you can dedicate to the project. Also, if your
head or block needs to be resurfaced that of course will need a
machine shop. Also as said below, prepare for other costs too.
4) Yup, see above with the Cometic.
5) Yup. I have a Defi boost gauge. Seems to work well.
