[Supras] Help for import to the US

I doubt any states will care if you bring it in... California might but that
should be about it.

When the dollar was high we would see plenty of Canadian "Chrysler"
Intrepid's at the Flint Auto Auction and they would disclose a Canadian
title but the local Secretary of State would accept the titles without a
problem

Air Bags are not required on anything but new cars... you can even sell a
used car without one in most state without disclosing that the car doesn't
have one... even if it should have.

If you're still having a problem... in Michigan you could get a title for
any car over something like 10 years by just putting up a bond for twice the
value and stating that it was your car. The bond would sit out there for
several years and if anyone could prove the car was theirs you would forfeit
the bond.

I did this on a beat up 74 Corvette years back that was involved in some
sort of Mob hit/drug deal (the FBI wasn't talking) and the bank I did work
for was stuck with an unperfected lien.

Since the pervious two owners had committed suicide with a long barrel gun
(hence the assumption there was some sort of a hit on them) they really
didn't have the ability to claim the car.

The bond was like $250 and since you currently own the car all you would
have to do in Michigan is claim you lost the title, have a cop inspect it to
see that it is a complete car and that the vin doesn't have a stolen flag on
it and your done.

Call the DMV of what ever state you're moving to and I doubt you will have a
problem with the Canadian title

Subject: [Supras] Help for import to the US

Guys,

I'm moving to the US in a couple months, and I want to bring my Canadian 91
Supra Turbo with me. However, Toyota won't issue me a certificate saying
it's OK to import. ONE thing they mentioned was the "passive restraint
system", which I take to mean the seat belts. The metioned nhtsa 208 in the
document.

Now, I know Darren has a Canadian Supra in Florida, so it must be doable.
And there has to be others. Please, please, please tell me what you needed
to do to get into the US!!!!! I don't want to leave my baby behind for 2
years until it becomes a classic ...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Eric
91T Canadian going to Texas.
