Ken, what kind of tires are you using (for street) and how old are those
R4S pads? I use the Raybestos for track too but the R4s for anything
else (auto-x, oval, street) and they'll certainly lock up the tires
(Azenis for autox). The Raybestos have much more stopping power but I
don't mind the R4S on the street since they won't wear the rotors when
cold. I was thinking maybe yours are glazed? My old set (several years
old, lots of use and a track weekend) had gotten that way and didn't
have much bite anymore. If they're glazed (shiny surface) you can
sometimes get more life out of them by scuffing them and rebedding. I
normally do that when swapping them back in to get a good surface again.

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time. I have finally bitten the
bullet and bought a set of Raybestos track pads for my daily driver.
The final straw was this past week when I drove my track Supra for the
entire week while waiting for an AFM replacement off of eBay for the DD.
After getting thoroughly spoiled by my track car's power, rev-ability,
handling, and crisp braking, I drove the freshly repaired DD to work and
felt like I was driving a cement truck. It felt simply dangerous (even
with the pads being Porterfield R4S's)! I couldn't believe how much
pedal effort was required for a comparatively longer stopping distance.
Of course the track car will get the new, fresh set and the
hand-me-downs to the DD, but no more street pad/x-drilled rotor crap for
me!!!!
Stopping with the best of 'em in FL,
Ken
