Wow. It has been a long time. I was beginning to think that this list had just died.
I got 350,000 kms on my original HG, that's about 220,000 miles, but mine was an NA. (The HG
was the excuse that I needed to buy and install the 7M-GTE.)
The "cheapest" option is probably to buy a JDM, find someplace to put it on a stand, and swap
out the gaskets and seals, including head gasket.
For the "take it to a shop" option... Buy the JDM, get a shop to put in a new headgasket,
front and rear main seals, check for spun bearings and install.
The chances are good that there won't be anything wrong with the engine that a new head
gasket won't cure, but a spun bearing is a possibility, so it should be inspected. If
they're going to take off the pan, maybe a new oil pump would be good insurance, too.
A complete build would be better, but spendy. If you're going to get a complete build done,
the motor you have is likely the best candidate, since you already own it.
