If you're building the Supra to make a profit or at least get your money
back your better buying some Bear Sterns stock... at least there is a chance
it will rebound...
If your 89 Targa is strait... build it and don't worry about it
The Supra fell off the blue book years ago and the only person who will give
you a reasonable amount of money for it will be someone who knows the car
and is willing to pay for a modified car. Salvage title or not, if the car
is nice it will sell

well that was my concern...i know about the other places for the vin
and they all have a yellow sticker with tha NY number on it...it kinda
sucks i already have a 89 targa with a "rebuilt" title the body is in
really good shape (just had the front support replaced is all i can find)
and am in the process of rebuilding a motor from ground up and wanted a
clean title car just for the fact that im dumping money in this ya
know....
thanks for the info

Someone... the state police or the thief removed the vin from the dash.
The State of Michigan created a replacement vin tag that was similar but not
the same as the oem number
I assume this is what is going on here. The term good title is kind of a
stretch IMHO on this car. It may never have been totaled but something
weird has happened to the original vin.
Most Toyotas have the vin in several places, Door Jam, Under hood and all of
the original body panels HAD a sticker with the vin on them.
I don't know if I would bother with Car Fax on this one. It is very likely
that you will find some sort of a problem but if you're just buying a
chassis I would crawl all around the car and look for frame damage or water
damage.
If the car is strait there isn't much a car fax report will tell you beyond
that
