Hmmm... I was under the impression that car emissions aren't really an "ozone" thing.
Besides, it's all carbon that's the current eco-trend, and that's directly related to fuel
burnt. Car emissions are more about smog and air quality anyway, aren't they?
I dislike sounding callous about environmental issues, but I think this is a bullet that I
can dodge. I removed my 20 year old, clogged up and useless cat. I bought a new exhaust,
and installed it with no cats, not so much to "gain 5HP" so much as to save about $300 or
so.
To me, it's the same as buying a hybrid car. I'd buy a hybrid, or a smart car as my daily
commute vehicle, but the extra expense of buying the car makes it impractical for me to do
so. The "conspicuous consumption" of owning more than one car aside, even if I were to
(heaven forbid) trade in my Supra, buying the more environmentally friendly vehicle becomes
more expensive to own in up-front costs than any potential for fuel savings is going to
cost me, and that's with the kind of mileage that I pack onto a car. (Maybe if I'd picked
up a Smart car when they cost $16,000, and not the current $25,000+ it would have been cost
effective.)
