1.  Check PCV system for proper operation.

2.  Check for excessive blowby.  Both of these can cause excessive crankcase pressure, which 
will push oil past the seal.

3.  On the NEXT seal, inspect the crank for burs, rough spots, or runout.

4.  Yeah...  Make sure the seal is in the right way.  It certainly fits in niccely the wrong 
way...  (DON'T TRUST THE HAYNES MANUAL.  Guess how I know...  I should have taken the extra 
minute that it would have taken to look it up in my TSRM.)


For #1 and #2, this should also affect the rear main as well.  You should check that via the 
inspection plate at the front of the transmission.  It's not as visible a leak, but can cause 
some bad things, so it should be checked.
