Daniel,
I feel your pain, but you have it worse than me. All cars here in the
Kingdom are set at 116 Kph, which is certainly better than the 105 of yours. Yet
the speed limit even on multi-lane highways here in the city is 120 (that's
75MPH folks!). Go figure. I test drove a JDM '89 here that was for sale here and
the kid had not unhooked his yet, although he seemed fairly mechanically
inclined and had done other mods (MHG replacement and stuff).
I have a company car of a Honda Pilot, and they will not disconnect them
here, but my boss has the same car and got his disconnected in Bahrain. He said
it involved removing the entire dash unit and cost him well over $200. I'm
sure that the nature of your '89 being less sophisticated than my '05 Pilot
should mean that disconnecting yours is an easier task. However, I would guess
that the only manual or wiring diagram from which you could trace it would be
in a JDM TSRM. Perhaps the Cygnus site might help.
In the meantime, until I can get to Bahrain to get mine disconnected, I've
found that Sammy Hagar, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, etc in the CD player have
plenty of juice to drown it out. ;-)
