Bernie,

Jeff (jprisco at optonline.net) owns the Jeep, not me.  I think a 96 would 
be R134a from the factory.  My experience is also with R134a, in my 
truck, and with R22 in my home AC system.

The professional sealers that you mentioned..... are they normally used 
for automotive applications, or home, commercial, and industrial 
applications?
