The flywheel on a manual trans car (assuming you don't mean
flexplate/automatic) can be held pretty easily if you have a second
person attack it from the inspection holes in the bell housing. The
flywheel's starter gear teeth are exposed very close to the bell
housing. Have your second person hold a medium sized prybar, or maybe a
very large flat screwdriver, such that the end is between two teeth on
the flywheel, and the bar is against the bell housing. That second
person should have a fairly easy time holding the +100ft/lbs. if they
take advantage of levering from this angle.
Take care that the car is supported properly while you have someone else
under the car.

The problem is holding the engine from turning. I know.....hold the flywheel. It's a little awkward, though, in the vehicle. Whatever; I'll git 'er done. A character flaw of mine is that I never, ever, give up.

But here is something that is VERY common in the marine business: How about a three liter (same as the Supra) four cylinder engine that's meant to tow water skiers and/ or go pounding across the waves at 4800 RPM indefinitely, with a dampener pulley that is simply pulled onto the crank shaft with a tool consisting of a 1/2' nut and piece of fine threaded rod. That's IT.....There IS NO BOLT AT ALL!!!!!! Those pistons are much larger than the Supra's. Two giant pulses per revolution. Keep in mind, too, that a boat at WOT is something like driving your car up a mountain at 80 mph. So, imagine my surprise about the dampener torque on a Supra. That's it.....just surprised, interested in the reason. Thanks again to all, even the funny guys, for the thoughts. I pay attention to them all.
