I've made over 400WHP on the stock cooler as well. I believe I did 456WHP on
a t04b way back when as well. I had metal crush bend IC pipes.

Subject: [Supras] John Lundsford stock intercooler comments

Just got my Treadstone IC today, and will install it shortly, maybe
tomorrow. But there have been some articles here and there which
indicate the stock IC to be OK up to 400 HP. Copied below from
Supraforums from 11/20/2003 is part of a listing by John Lundsford. I
would not listen to the average guy on the street, but we have
experienced gurus on this list who I listen to intently. Anything I
learn I post too, like refinishing cam caps. But John is almost
legendary in the 7M world, or so it seems. Even Mario at Performance
Technicques speaks about him genererating 440 RHP. Now that I have the
Treadstone (Spearco copy here with a few mounting refinements which do
not relate to performance), the wind has been taken out of my sails, so
to speak, regarding installing it. I already have thinwall steel
hardpipes in place and have the original IC out. Any and all comments
would be appreciated in what follows here. I'm running 15-17 PSI boost
on a 57 trim CT26, 550cc injectors, Lex, 3" turbo back exhaust, Cometic,
ARP, and all that goes with it. 375-400 HP at the flywheel is enough.
The clip follows here:

 From Supraforums.com, 11/20/2003:

Next: Intercooler pipes: The stock intercooler is good, flawlessly, for
around 400+hp ... but not everyone believes it except for the guys that
are doing it. There are enough flow tests and guys doing it to be
confident that the stock IC is good for 400+hp.
See the following link to ONE (of plenty) guy's mk3 running the stock
intercooler with the intercooler pipes that we are going to talk about.
The intercooler pipes write-up that we will be talking about was made by
this guy:
John Lunsford at 7mpower.com. <http://www.7mpower.com/john_lunsford.shtml>
The following is the link to the PVC intercooler pipe write-up that will
cost about 40$ tops (compare that to the 400+$ kits sold) and it will
flow 400+HP guaranteed and not only withstand the heat but lower your
EGTs better than the more expensive metal kits. <--- It is the same
thing with the people who doubt the stock intercooler ... many don't
believe in it, but it works flawlessly. (*I don't want to have a bunch
of comments on this because I don't want the thread hijacked). You need
to make sure that you get the correct temperature treated PVC and follow
directions " to the 'T' ". <--- If you do then it will be flawless and
you will be very pleased.JBLMK3 PVC IC pipe write-up FOR ONE STOCK
INTERCOOLER.

needed and a sectioned write-up.

Any opinions would be appreciated. I'm very well aware of the fact that
a Spearco or equivalent is the standard of comparison for Supra buildups
despite the slightly smaller core area than the stocker. But John has a
point about the stocker I've seen elsewhere too. He also did a
qualitative pressure drop comparison of the stocker vs. other stockers.

I do not intend to be critical of everyone saying to upgrade to a
Spearco-like cooler, or else I wold not have bought one with $150 for
next day shipping (time off is hard to get). All I'm looking for are
the facts, from those who have "been there".

    Bernie
