[Supras] Cam gear timing difficulties

Hey all,

I'm having a hell of a time getting the cam timing straight on my stock MX83
Cressida. (7M-GE).

I put the crank at zero, then the cam marks to line up with the back plate
notches and button it all up and no-go. The engine just "spins", doesn't
"crank". No compression.

I followed the TFSM, but I did nothing wrong. The only "variable" they
mention is which hole to put the cam alignment pin into but I can't even see
how that changes anything. (I did put it back in the same hole - middle)

So, I'm searching the crap out of the net trying to figure out where I
screwed up and someone mentions that you have to see the intake cam lobe in
the oil filler hole. So, I check and OK, looks like I'm 180 out. Re-do it
"right" and still the "spin", not the crank normally associated with the
air-pump an engine is.

Is there any other way this can be messed up?

1. I've got the cam pins on the middle pin. Which matches with what was
there when I disassembled:

2. Put pencil in spark plug hole #1 and it rides high on crank mark zero.

3. Cams line up perfectly after two manual turns of crankshaft (back to
zero).

My last Supra was cake when I was here. So I've done this two times so I'm
assuming that I can eliminate the 180 out issue. Although I'm getting
pretty good as disassembling the front of the engine, I'm getting real sick
of this.

Can anybody help? Damn, I feel like such a dumbass.

Thanks,

  Koll
