The 'NA comes with a 4.300:1 differential, and the overdrive on the W58 isn't as tall as the
one on the R154, so yeah, the RPM sits a bit high when you compare to a lot of other cars.
This isn't really a problem, since the 7M-GE will generally do this happily for hundreds of
thousands of miles.
To comment on other information here... AFAIK, all of the NAs, automatic or turbo had the
4.300:1 differential in it. The "sport package" NAs also had a 4.300:1 differential, but it
was limited slip, not open. FWIW, All Canadian spec MA70s had LSD, even the NAs, where as
that required the sport package option for the US spec cars. (This may be of interest to
those looking for a 4.300:1 LSD for drag racing.)
So basically, it's normal for this car.
I'm now trying to get used to a LOWER reading on the tach at highway speeds. ;)
