Hey Fred,
I feel your pain, man. Just did the same thing myself. I used an eBay gasket set and was not totally satified. There were a few gaskets missing and others were for a turbo, when I ordered N/A gaskets. I had to buy five or six gaskets from Toyota. That being said, The gaskets that I did use SEEMED to be okay. It was still cheaper than a Toyota set. The head gasket was absolute crap, though; so by all means, pitch it. It didn't even have the fire rings around some ot the cooling passages, as the Toyota gasket did. (I too used a Cometic, but no studs.)
As for bearings, I used ACL brand. I needed oversize; and it is my belief that Toyota didn't have them in 0.50 mm. But I could be wrong. My NAPA store was telling me I'd have to wait months for theirs. Also, my engine was rebuilt before I had it; and it already HAD ACLs in it, which were found to be in decent shape. This made me feel good about them; as they were about the only thing in the engine that WERE any good.
Hope this helps.
Bill
