It may not be the manifold at all if you have an EGR valve.?
I had the same problem and it turned out to be the gasket for the diverter cover for the EGR valve.
This diverter?cover is on the back side of the head (between the head and firewall) that diverts exhust gases from the head into the EGR valve.? I think there are at least 8 bolts.? Make sure all the bolts are on tight or maybe the gasket is bad.?
BTW it is hard to get to the bolts.? Just gotta take your time and hope you are double jointed.
Hope this helps
Brandon

?
Hi!
When I ran into this problem it turned out to be a leak around the exhaust
manifold gasket, which was actually due to the exhaust studs threads stripping
in the cylinder head (you should have all of them heliCoiled). Even if an
exhaust stud is heliCoiled into the head, the nuts need to be retorqued
occasionally, but do so on a cold engine (trust me on this one). So my advise
is to check the nuts on the exhaust manifold (90% it's the one on the rear most
location that will be loose, start there).
Good luck,
Khalid, 90T
