What model Raybestos pads were you using... my dd needs pads soon and the
current pads are covering the rims with an unbelievable amount of dust

You will love the additional fact that these Raybestos pads produce a
surprisingly small amount of brake dust. I personally recommend losing the
hard lines if you're doing a lot of pads swapping, like I think you will be.
My hard lines simply couldn't take all of the flexing that occurs during the
changing of the pads and started leaking in the rear. Furhtermore, when I
went back to the stock hoses, I honestly could feel NO DIFFERENCE between
the SS braided and stock rubber hoses. More marketing BS?

Thanks for your advice Ken, and I will bite the bullet and buy front and
rear pads. For my past events I have been using Axxis pads and these worked
ok, but due to reasons similar to yours, I keep them on and kept driving
daily! That was a mistake, and the end result was the rotors got eaten up
and I could feel the effect in reduced braking performance. I measured the
rotors, and I am at 0.840" thikness, which is above the limit by 0.013".
Since those where relatively new rotors, I am disappointed to the extent
that I am now switching to another pad (I was advised to remove the pads,
but ignored it). I actually don't think the Axxis pad where bad, it's just
that they do eat up rotors and produce tons of dust that does stick to the
wheels ("painted" my 5zgens black). So now, I am sort of starting from
scratch on my braking system with new, different type, pads and rotors,
stock given the feedback from Jeff and Brian. The car has hard brake line
so I think I should have a decent setup for track events.

Regards,

/Khalid, 90T

Regarding the ST-41/42 pads, be sure to GET THE REARS TOO! I know it is a
lot of money, but there is no comparison to just doing the ST-41's in the
front. With the 41's up front and 42's in the rear, our big ole' heavy
MKIII's actually feel light and agile under braking. The brake pedal will
seem very responsive with the slightest application of the brakes and the
car will nose over hard with moderate pedal pressure. The rear of the car
almost twitches like a mild hand brake feel when braking hard on the track.

How do I know the ST-42's in the rear are sooooo important. Well, I had a
few NASA events where I only had time to change the rears out for my daily
driving for the following week. So I put my Porterfield R4S's in the back
and left the ST-41's up front. At the first stop sign by my house, I thought
there was something wrong with the brakes. I had gotten used to the
responsiveness of the combo and was SPOILED. Actually the week after every
event is rough for me, because each time I don't want to take the track pads
off. One of these times, I will bite the bullet and leave the Raybestos pads
on permanent. Daily driving and all! The car is so much SAFER with these
pads on..even totally cold!
