Thanks Bernie. Really, those Porsche guys weren't all that fast and
being on/off line makes a big difference (I mentioned pointing a Miata
by the first session, he was fast and on the line and I took the most
important corner way, way too early)
I've got bolt on engine stuff, full 3" exhaust, 550/Lex/AFPR (very
untuned at 9:6:1), techtom ecu, IC & pipes, FIPK, kevlar clutch & light
FW. Suspesion is Tokico II's/Eibachs (they've held up very well to the
abuse), nylon bushings, Front/Rear STBs, Bigger swaybars and 235/255-17
Bridgestones (SO-3)

I'm not keeping the car in the meat of the powerband throughout the
track, something that will come with time and I don't redline this ol'
engine, luckily it makes decent torque. You're right there's a big
difference in throttle modulation at 3k and 5k rpm. Coming out of the
turn I mentioned above (Oak Tree, Turn 11a onto backstraight) I never
tried second, instead coming out at 3k in third which on a good line
allowed me to get on the throttle early. That's another advantage of
being up a gear, you can apply throttle even earlier without being in
trouble (vs. downshifting and shifting right back up again)
Get out there, practice and have fun Bernie, you'll be amazed at what
you learn.

I'm not sure what the instructor was yelling about unless it's where the
red Porsche crossed pit out in front of me. People have gotten seriously
hurt due to things like that in the past, you watch and stay right until
everyone is past, luckily I was only approaching at ~110 and saw him
plenty early.
Brian

The videos were absolutely fascinating. I know you have posted your
mods at sometime in the past, but the way you passed all those Porsches,
what do you have under that hood? Also, it appears as if your power
delivery is very smooth. Jeff Mohler and I have discussed the "digital"

nature of 57 trim turbo operation on the list, and quick throttle
modulation appears to be an acquired skill. My '91 will often break
loose in second gear faster than I can modulate the throttle. There are
some seldom used back roads here around Picatinny Arsenal (Morris
County, NJ) where I done some shenanigans, but obviously nothing like
the road course. Nonetheless I would not be breaking the law too much
there at 4000 RPM in second gear. But your videos are of more interest.
I could not understand what the instructor was yelling at you about 2/3
of the way through the last session. What was going on?

I had plans to drive to Ohio or western Pennsylvania for a first
novice day in May, but work pressures and deadlines got in the way.
Also, I need to watch cost somewhat (tires and wheels, time lost from
consulting work, etc.) since I'm already over the customary retirement
age in a bad economy. I still want to get to a NASA track, even on
street tires just for the feel of it. The woman I spoke to in the north
Jersey chapter said they are trying to open a track locally here, but
nothing has taken place yet.
