[Supras] Oil pumps and other questions

FWIW, I went Cometic head gasket at ~ 80 ft-lbs IIRC with APR bolts (not studs if it matters) and a brand new stock Toyota oil pump from Jeff Watson at Champion Toyota (800) 327-2087 with our SOGI discount which turned out pretty reasonable as my weak memory serves. That was about a year or so ago and at least 15k miles with no complaints. I figured at 200k+ miles the factory pump was at least reliable and if memory serves ours is a high volume but low pressure system? The oil pressure drops to nearly none at idle when at operating temperature but no ill effects after several thousand miles before on a worn engine and many since on a re-ringed refreshed bottom end (I know I didn't do a proper complete rebuild) but I still have observed no ill effects at ~ 15k miles after the refresh at 10 psi or so boost where fuel cut has been a PITA over the winter.
If any are interested the MAFT-Pro install got moving this week, my BOV pipe is on the way after a few months waiting along with spring weather which has incentiveised the MAFT-Pro install that I started in earnest this week. Hopefully I'll have reports as to performance in a couple of weeks with my meager mods and the MAFT-Pro in speed density mode.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack but the grease under my fingernails for a change and a bit of fermented grape juice has me typing more than usual.

HTH,

Subject: [Supras] Oil pumps and other questions

I finally got my pistons from wiseco, they have been on backorder since mid feb. The machine work should be done by the 16th, hopefully.
I went with forged wisecos because they were the same price as stock pistons only better, hopefully.
So, as I move closer to putting this engine back together I am wondering about oil pumps. Is a new stock oil pump adequate? or should I look for something else. What is the general consensus of the group? I read somewhere in a forum that a guy was recommending a 5m pump for more pressure, it was not in this group, and I can't seem to find it again but has anybody heard of this? There was also mention of machining the plate at the bottom of the pump if worn and shimming the pressure control spring for more pressure. A new pump seems to make more sense to me. What do you guys think? Toyota, aisin pump, 7m pump, 5m pump, remain or new or other suggestions.

Also what do most people torque the head stud to? 2.2mm cometic gasket with ARP studs, cometic says no retorque is necessary, do you agree?

Thanks
Fred
