[Supras] 7M-GTE Replacement Options

Ditto, Dan.
My first JDM 7MGTE swap was a POS. My present one is good. In both cases I put in the head gasket set and used ARP studs torqued to 75 ft lbs.

I intend to rebuild the POS for a Locost project, like this: http://www.cheapsportscar.net/.
I intend to do a completely 7M-based Lotus 7.

Wow. It has been a long time. I was beginning to think that this list had just died.

I got 350,000 kms on my original HG, that's about 220,000 miles, but mine was an NA. (The HG
was the excuse that I needed to buy and install the 7M-GTE.)

The "cheapest" option is probably to buy a JDM, find someplace to put it on a stand, and swap
out the gaskets and seals, including head gasket.

For the "take it to a shop" option... Buy the JDM, get a shop to put in a new headgasket,
front and rear main seals, check for spun bearings and install.

The chances are good that there won't be anything wrong with the engine that a new head
gasket won't cure, but a spun bearing is a possibility, so it should be inspected. If
they're going to take off the pan, maybe a new oil pump would be good insurance, too.

A complete build would be better, but spendy. If you're going to get a complete build done,
the motor you have is likely the best candidate, since you already own it.
