If machine shops, even the ones with CBN mills, actually delivered on the average surface roughness that they claim, then we wouldn't need lapping. One recent job I saw had dips every 12 inches, clearly from sloppy ways. A high school shop could have done a better job!

Another source of lapping plates is Mcmaster carr.

Oh ya...we paid GOOD machine shops  to machine the parts and never had to
look back.
