I would suggest using diamond paste to make the job go much faster. MSCDirect.com has an excellent selection
of grit sizes.
I would not recommend using carbide grit as it cuts too slow.
For the block I used #60 purple for the initial cut, then finished off with Heavy #6 orange for a mirror finish. For the head, you can just used #6 orange since the aluminum cuts fast.
