What a pain.

That cable runs back under the driver's door, then across the rear support to the passenger 
side, and then back to the fuel door.

Mine got stuck, turned out only to need a bit of graphite lube.  Works great, now.

You, unfortunately have broken the end, so you'll have to replace the cable.

You'll need to remove the interior from the hatchback, in its entirety, remove the passenger 
side rear panel as well.  Next goes the rear seats (You had to pull the rear seat backs to 
remove the panels.)

You should be able to leave the front seats and carpet in place, IIRC.  I'm reasonably sure 
that you can get to the cable from the edges of the carpet.  (Since I've never had to 
replace it, I'm not 100% sure of this though.)


Instead of a cable, you can install an electric popper, Might be a neat trick...
