Thanks for the backup information. I can understand getting rid of
the VSV by some for the sake of simplicity with an upgraded FPR, but I'm
far enough along enough with getting the new engine together that VSV2
is already installed, moved to the top of the intake manifold along with
the one for EGR.
Incidentally, it was not hard to make a variable FPR from the stock
one, the advantage being that it will fit in the stock location and look
almost like the stock one. There are examples of this in various
internet articles. You do need a small machine shop for this, primarily
a lathe, but the cost requirements are not excessive over one's life as
a car or other technical enthusiast.
It should be easy enough to see if the VSV is operational by pulling
the vacuum line off the diaphragm housing. Nonetheless, you do have a
point in KISS (keep it simple and stupid, although "stupid" does not
really apply here").
