[Supras] Oil seepage on timing belt:

Bob:

A very small amount of oil weepage seems normal. Each time I've torn an
engine down I've seen evidence in the lower timing cover of small
amounts of oil having flowed out of the slot at the very bottom.

You can change the following seals:

1. Crankshaft, after pulling off the timing belt sprocket. When you
reinstall it, fill the keyway with silicone. The high torque on the
crank pulley bolt is supposed to force it against the sprocket, but some
oil may find its way through the keyway anyway.

2. Cam seals.

3. Oil pump driveshaft seal. The shaft is to the right of the
tensioner when viewed from the front.

I've seen one engine with a worn tensioner and one at maybe 0K with one
like new. If you intend the car to last for some time, replace it with
a new one if the present one wobbles at all. There is a ball bearing in
it which is subject to wear.

Hope this helps.

    BernieK
