    Thanks for the info.  I've read about the Tanabe system, but noise 
is a subjective matter to some extent (NJ will not pull out a sound 
level meter unless you go to the supervisor, which is not appreciated) 
and will look into it further. 

    The inspectors think they are gods.  You cannot watch them test the 
car.  Rather, you are directed to a waiting area at the end of each 
lane.  You are reprimanded if you leave the waiting area.  Bureaucracy 
run amuck.  NJ and other states are also thinking of selling roads and 
bridges paid for with taxpayer dollars to get quick cash to make 
incumbent polititions look good.  I'm ready to puke.  Arlene has the 
right idea, living in Oklahoma without such nonsense.
