Try turning the steering wheel from stop to stop to purge any air you may have trapped in the system. Also, IIRC mine did this when the screen in the bottom of my PS fluid reservoir was dirty.

Subject: [Supras] Whining noise, idler pulley or PS pump?

Just looking for some insight before I dig into these pieces. I fired
 up
the car yesterday and heard a strange whining sound (similar to
supercharger whine when revved) The sound increases with revs so I
assumed it must be one of the idler pulleys (AC belt or timing belt) I
went for an easy drive to see if it changed and I noticed if I quickly
turned the wheel the noise would become louder so I started to suspect
the PS pump (fluid level is fine) AS I parked the car I turned the
steering while idling and there is no additional noise. I'm not sure
what it could be, maybe an idler pulley and the steering action is
somehow feeding back to it (doesn't look like there's one on the PS
belt)
I placed a screwdriver against the AC belt idler pulley and it feels
rough but I don't see why this would vary with steering.

Just wanted to see if anyone had a similar occurrence. I'm really
 hoping
to get this fixed by Sunday, otherwise I'll lose my points lead!
Thanks,
Brian
