[Supras] break-in period

Dear Brian and group:

You are correct in stating that the major break-in factor is seating
the cylinder walls to the rings. Bearings and valves do not need
break-in. If pistons are tightly fitted, some break-in care is required
(stock pistons have cast-in steel struts under the wrist pin to control
expansion, not so with lower silicon forged pistons). Most new cast
ones are tin plated to facilitate break-in, but I re-used the stock
pistons, since the JDM did not have much wear (cylinder cross-hatching
was still visible). I think Jeff Mohler is correct, though, that after
about 50 miles most of the ring seating has been accomplished. The
upper compression rings are chrome plated, much harder than the cylinder
walls.

To quote Rockey Fox, I can't keep my foot out of the turbo. And no,
it does not hurt. It feels very, good, VERY good once into second gear
where the tires have a chance to get a grip.

          Bernie
