Yes, as stated before I want to get rid of the HKS foam that ants
can crawl through. The stock paper element is a little larger in
diameter than the HKS foam-not, but should be adaptable if the pressure
drop will not be too great. Please let me know what other ideas you have.
Just roughly modified the stock boost gauge tonight to read up to
about 14 PSI at full scale by cutting the orange lead from the sensor,
inserting a 1K resistor in series with the sensor and a 2.5K resistor
from the gauge input to ground. Seems to work OK to indicate about 13.5
PSI boost full scale, the apparent limit with the stock boost transducer
when operated on 5V from the stock ECU. The ECU actually biases up the
sensor output, which is pinned at full scale if the sensor is
disconnected. In any event, for a rough cal, the dash sensor now reads
full scale for about 14 PSI boost. I'm going to get a bona fide silicon
strain gage pressure transducer with 0-5V output covering perhaps 0-25
PSI, or 0 to to 35 PSI absolute pressure and use it instead of the stock
sensor. At a future date I will recalibrate the gauge face.
What do you recommend for a decent air filter with enough surface
area? I'll cut the radiator wall to fit if it protrudes through. One
of my local speed shops have nice looking long conical filters with
rubber curved flow sections to enter the AFM.
