Being one who had to remove an engine to change a harmonic balancer assembly
on an 86 Mr2 I would suggest you strip the block down to the bare long
block.

The harmonic balancer I had to change was the same but a couple of the holes
weren't tapped.  There are a bunch of things that may work but isn't it
easier to work on an engine on the floor than in a car
