Why not spring for the less expensive insurance of a cometic? I put the 60mm in mine which effectively lowered the compression ratio that apparently allows me (much to my surprise and delight) to run regular unleaded instead of the higher octane fuel previously required and I have more power in upper rpm's without knock. Before the engine rebuild with the stock turbo I had to run premium to avoid spark knock. I did upgrade the compressor to 57 trim with clipped exhaust but that was several months after the engine rebuild and due to turbo failure which necessitated the rebuild of the stock CT-26. I set the timing to TSRM specified advance after the rebuild and have no other logical explanation for the engine accepting lower octane and cheaper fuel? I open to other explanations but that seemed the logical explanation at the time and no observed ill effects since.... I actually accidentally filled the tank with regular unleaded instead of premium at the time and have been
running regular unleaded without any noticeable difference since. Pre-rebuild it ran like crap on anything except for premium.

Progress:
I've picked up my parts.
My 'gasket set' turned out to be a complete overhaul set, so it has abunch of o rings, and all
of the valve stem seals and things that I was thinking that I might do as well. I guess that
explains why it cost more than I thought it would, besides typical Toyota Parts counter
pricing.
My ARP head bolt set turned out to be a stud set. I guess I'll just have to settle for ARP
studs instead of bolts. (Gee, tough luck, huh?)
I'm just going to put in a Toyota OEM head gasket. I ran out of budget before getting to an
HKS head gasket. I figure though that the OEM gasket should be fine with adequate torque.
Also, since I'm not machining the head or block (Well, not PLANNING to) I figure the OEM
gasket might have a better chance at sealing with whatever minor imperfections might be
present. If needed though, I have clients with machine shops, and I might be able to ask a
favor...
The teardown begins Sunday.
