[Supras] 1989 Toyota Supra - Two Oil Filters??????

Hello Supra Group

I have a 1989 Supra Turbo, I have always had it serviced at the dealer or at 
a garage.

I noticed a small amount of oil on the floor under the car, I had just had 
the oil changed.  Well curiosity got the better of me, and I jacked her way 
up and got under.  Well to my amazement it looks like I have two oil filters 
on this car.  One filter is where the Haynes book says its suppose to be, in 
a very difficult hard to reach place next to the frame etc. and the other, 
is located on a bracket next to the oil pan. The hoses leading to it 
disappear into the engine and are hard to trace, I really need to get better 
lighting.

Can someone please tell me if this is common, or what this filter services.  
I called Toyota and they wanted me to bring it in as they said they have 
never heard of this.  I have never been billed for two filters when the oil 
has been changed.
