The old school way to clean sludge out was to toss in a quart of
transmission fluid in the car and change it around 1000 miles later

Why do you want to flush the oil? I did that once with a Corolla SR-5
and saw my Oil Pressure drop by 1/3 after doing it.
Just change the oil, drive for 1500 miles and change again, and change
after 1500 miles, then get on 3,000 miles thereafter.
The ONLY thing I add to my oil is Marvel Mystery oil. I did it on that
Corolls, and then on a Corolla GTS I bought in 1986. The '80 SR-5 went
244,000 miles before I traded it for the Hachiroku, and that now has
259,000 miles on it; never a sludge or oil problem. I would drain it,
fill it with 5.5 qts of GOOD oil (I use Castrol GTX) and 1 qt MMO, drive
the 1500 miles and do it again. I would keep adding the MMO (well, I
*DO*!!). On my GTS, I have NEVER had to have the valves reshimmed! (The
GTS has basically the same engine as the Supra, minus 2 cylinders)
