iridium sits higher than platinum. the metal is much stronger than platinum and actually allows a better spark using a smaller electrode. Like stated before, Iridium plugs are more like a set-and-forget type piece that you dont have to worry about unless theres a problem with yer engine. prob change them like every 50k miles.
in short, think all characteristics of platinum but last longer.
