[Supras] replacement motor mounts:

Dear Nick and group:

I took a look at the Isuzu mount at NAPA and a similar Anchor mount at
Autozone. They looked very much the same. I bought a pair of the Anchor
mounts, got them home, mounted the bottom stud of one in a nut held in a
vise, and determined how much movement there was at the top stud with
another nut and a box wrench used to bend it.

Much to my surprise, there was no internal limit stop or provision for
an external stop. I could bend the top stud about 90 degrees, and found
that the pad it was attached to was simply bonded to a mound of rubber. The
pad was smaller in diameter than the stock fluid filled mount. Luckily,
Autozone is good about returns.

It got to the point where I was going to make my own mounts using early
Ford buscuits and rectangular steel tubing. Then miraculously, someone (I
wish I remembered who) posted a photo of a 7M engine with the '98 MkIV
mounts attached. That was the answer to my dreams.

        Bernie
