[Supras] First gear

I've been wondering about these as well, as they seem to be cheaper than
any of the turbos that are more specific to application of the Supra.

However, when I price out the eBay turbo, a manifold, wastegate, and
figure in downpipe modification, it doesn't seem like it's all that
inexpensive anymore compared to the BOSS turbo at SupraSport, which will
use the factory manifold and downpipe that I already own.

I'm actually a bit more interested in opinions on this turbo, and if the
ceramic ball bearing option is worthwhile. I also would like to know
how it compares, bang for buck wise with a 57 or 60-1 trim upgrade to
the CT26. The upgraded CT26 is relatively cheap, but I presume that the
newer turbo will have its own advantages.

As with any of these upgrades, I suppose that what my goals are would be
needed to give reasonable advise.

Power goals: I'm uncertain here, but I doubt that I'll need much more
than 400HP to the ground. It seems to me that a 57 trim upgrade should
be adequate for this.

Driving style: I'm not a drag racer. I'd like to have the car be
responsive on the street, more towards capability on the track than on
the dragstrip. I'd like to have a nice quick spool, and wide power band
rather than a lot of peak power. If this means going with a lower top
end HP, then so be it.

So I guess what I want is something that will produce a lot more flow
without a lot more lag, assuming supporting mods. For these, I have the
Lexus AFM and 550cc injectors already. I am installing an 80mm turbo-
back exhaust, hopefully next Saturday. (That'd be nice!) I have the
Walbro 255lph fuel pump, but I don't yet have an aftermarket FPR. I
don't quite have a handle on the limitations of the stock FPR, so I'm
not sure at what point this becomes an issue. The fuel pump upgrade
will be installed before spring.
