[Supras] MR2 100amp Alternator in 92T --- NOT a drop-in

Thanks for the encouragement and extremely timely reply, Dan...

I measured... the belt itself is 17mm. The stocker pulley is about
1-2mm wider than the MR2s, but the MR2 pulley accepts the belt quite nicely
--- in fact, when I had the MR2 alt installed yesterday, and the belt was on
and tightened, I didn't even realise it wasn't down inside those grooves due
to 5 vs. 4 indentations. I only noticed the 5 vs.4 indents on the pulleys
today when I went back out to remove that PCV hose. So it's entirely
possible I could just wing it with the 4-groove MR2 pulley. Still, with the
belt not sitting down in those grooves, I'd be worried about the alt not
spinning smoothly or "skipping", as it were. Maybe an unfounded concern, I
don't know?......

Totally agreed re: that nut on the back of the alternator's pivot bolt at
the top --- the PCV hose was SO bunched up next to it that I couldn't even
fit a normal pair of pliers over that nut to hold it and grasp it to keep it
from falling when the pivot bolt was removed from it. Wound up using a long
needle-nose pliers for that purpose, worked like a charm. Having that nut
fall down into that hole at the bottom where the PCV line connects would be
an unbelievable PITA -- I don't envy you having gone through that. Did you
use a magnetised claw/pickup tool to extricate yours when it fell in?

I'm inclined to just take both alternators to AdvAuto, have them use an
impact wrench to remove both pulleys, then put the stocker one on the MR2
alt. As you said, it probably isn't that big of an ordeal. I think in the
long run I'll sleep better knowing the stocker pulley on the MR2 alternator
matches the belt and that the belt goes down into the grooves as it
should....
