The original TDDS Theft deterrent system doesn't have a keyfob. in order to disarm the system the door
must be unlocked with the key. That switch disarms the system, and the system must be disarmed before
the door is opened.
Why the headlights poped up after the knock sensor rewire, and not before... Maybe something that was
disconnected before became connected. I don't know.
In any case, the root of the problem is that the theft deterrent system is not working.
The easiest and cheapest solution is to purchase an inexpensive aftermarket alarm with a keyfob and
keyless entry. Install this properly, and have it's unlock output also trigger the TDDS disarm circuit.
This will resolve the problem.
Alternately, you can buy a new key cylinder from Toyota. With the VIN number they can get you one that
will match the factory key code. I don't know what this will cost, but I'll bet it's not cheap. Ask
though, sometimes it's not as bad as you might think.
