This is true.  My timing belt snapped (Well, shredded itself may be more accurate) and I got away 
with it.  Not something I'd count on though.

In stock trim, the engine is non-interference.  Carbon build-up on the pistons, having the head 
and/or block decked, or high RPM valve float can all change that, making valve damage possible if 
the timing belt is permitted to break.

Most likely you'll be okay, but there's always a chance.
