The oil pump is driven from the timing belt through a driveshaft that long ago also drove the distributor (in the place where the block to head rubber breather pipe now sits).
There are four seals on the front that can leak, the two cam seals, the oil pump driveshaft seal ,and the crank seal. Given the age, any of them could be leaking if they have not been changed. Also the CPS can leak oil both from a hardened external o-ring, and internally from a worn out oil seal. On my car all of these have been replaced in the last few years in order to cure an endless series of oil leaks. The underhood heat and overall age eventually catches up with these cars.

The oil pump on the Supra runs of the crank and is internal.? To change it you need to drop the oil pan.? No need to worry about the oil pump leaking inside the timming cover.? The only posible things that can leak in the timing cuver are the two cam oil seals, main oil seal and if you have really bad luck head gasket or a hole in the head or block.? Most likely it will be one of the three oil seals.?
I always change all of the oil seals when changing the timing belt even if it does not need to be changed just so I know I will not have to change it later on.? It may be a little more work to change the oil seals but to me it is worth the time then having to change it 100 miles after I changed the timing belt.? Remeber Merphy's law...? "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" (at least I think that is how it is quoted).
