[Supras] Coolant and rad

It is tough as hell to diagnosis a system in person let alone doing it over
the internet.

Keep it simple and cheap. Replace the Radiator Cap and Thermostat with NEW
oem. It can't cost you $20 or take more than an hour to do this.

Or you could spend money and have someone with the equipment sniff the
radiator with a 4 gas analyzer and prove that the head gasket was still
good.

If you spend $20 you have a new thermostat and radiator cap and maybe solve
the problem or you could spend $75 and just know what it isn't.

If the head gasket is gone your only out $20.00

Hi list,

the radiator and coolant are brand new and at the correct levels. Also, the

fan and clutch are brand new OEM parts.

I replaced the thermostat just before the BHG repair, thinking it could be
the reason for my problems, but it wasn't. Still had the symptoms, so did
the
BHG-repair, which was well worth it (gasket was completely porous, corroded

and brittle).

I still have the 'old' thermostat, which I kept, so I am thinking I'll put

it back in for the hell of it and try it out.

Problem is, after a BHG, no-one wants to muck around and let the engine get

too hot too often! Too much work and too many $$!

The amount of possibilities for the cooling-system of a Supra not working
correctly are so numerous, that I am seriously thinking of getting rid of
the
thing, although I really love the whole rest of the car and have had it
since
1996!

So far I have heard the following reasons for a possible overheating:-

1) Timing not correct (questionable)
2) Fan or fan-clutch defective
3) The dreaded BHG
4) Thermostat defective
5) Not enough coolant
6) Blockage between the two rads
7) Radiator cap not working correctly
8) Airbubbles in the water/cooling system
9) Blockage/dirt somewhere in the cooling system

and I am sure there are several more!

So on we go with the search for the overheating under duress - I will carry

on only town-driving till then, but on the other hand - who wants a sports
car, but drives at 50 mph all the while??
