Aww. Don't give up so easy on the supra. All the over heating problems you get with the supra can happen to any car. I had the same problem with my supra. Replaced everything to the coolant system from hoses to the BHG. Put everything back together with a 1mm MHG and was still over heating. Stumped me for a long time. Then it hit me that I never replaced the fan clutch. So I replaced the fan clutch and blades(just for the hell of it) and the needle never moves after warm up. No matter of the stress levels. I'm not saying replace everything under the hood. Once you figure out what it is, you'll know your car a lot better. I learned a ton during the over heating days.

I wouldn't give up my supra for anything despite how much money it costs me and despite everyone telling me that I need to get rid of it.

Good luck!

Hi list,

the radiator and coolant are brand new and at the correct levels. Also, the
fan and clutch are brand new OEM parts.

I replaced the thermostat just before the BHG repair, thinking it could be
the reason for my problems, but it wasn't. Still had the symptoms, so did the
BHG-repair, which was well worth it (gasket was completely porous, corroded
and brittle).

I still have the 'old' thermostat, which I kept, so I am thinking I'll put
it back in for the hell of it and try it out.

Problem is, after a BHG, no-one wants to muck around and let the engine get
too hot too often! Too much work and too many $$!

The amount of possibilities for the cooling-system of a Supra not working
correctly are so numerous, that I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the
thing, although I really love the whole rest of the car and have had it since
1996!

So far I have heard the following reasons for a possible overheating:-

1) Timing not correct (questionable)
2) Fan or fan-clutch defective
3) The dreaded BHG
4) Thermostat defective
5) Not enough coolant
6) Blockage between the two rads
7) Radiator cap not working correctly
8) Airbubbles in the water/cooling system
9) Blockage/dirt somewhere in the cooling system

and I am sure there are several more!

So on we go with the search for the overheating under duress - I will carry
on only town-driving till then, but on the other hand - who wants a sports
car, but drives at 50 mph all the while??

Derek 88T Automatic.
