Interesting Observation
If you're going to build a high HP 7M based on a GTE block you're better off with the Latest/Newest block you can find!
When I dropped the 87 and 92 blocks off this morning I commented on how
much more the late block weighed lifting them out of the Ute!
Allan and I have just spent an hour comparing the 2 side by side on
stands and the late block is about 2.5mm thicker everywhere and has
many more strengthening ribs inside and out with all of the internal
ribs being much larger!
The Deck is thicker and the Main Bolts holes have another 8mm of thread engagement!
The Pan rails are wider as well!

Re: mk3 block differences? (Glen K)
I looked like oldfaithful last night as we were on our final tuning run, lol.
120 over the bridge and a geyser of steam spewing behind me. I imagine it would of made for a great picture. So anyways its rebuild time, I knew it was inevitable just didnt want it to be under these circumstances.
Question is, is there any differences between the mk3 blocks in later yrs vs the 88? and no I dont want to hear anything about the 1 or 2js unless someones got one for real real cheap.
Yes there are differences, I know I just saw some pictures of the differences on one of the forums recently, but can't find them right now. Nothing major, just a couple extra ribs on the outside of the block and a little thicker in some places on the oil pan mounting surface IIRC.
