[Supras] Why are we like we are?

I've always had old cars, my 1st sports car was a 1970 240z . I guess the Z car was the one that gave me the sports car bug but it took 15 years for me to get back into one with my 90 Toy car. It really is a fun toy to me that passes with ease on the back roads daily commute when I have an opportunity in the 4 passing zones.
I like driving topless and it's really cool for me that the "hot rod" is also the fuel miser. 20 mpg in town and 25 mpg ~ 80 mph on cruise control in a car that's comfortable to drive 6 hours at a time is also a great bonus for my infrequent business travel.
Honestly, the reason I bought my Supra was the discovery of this list. I was torn between the 90T Supra, a turbo 300ZX and a twin turbo stealth with all wheel drive but the supras.com group is what made my choice that continues to prove correct. I was also a little prejudiced against the v-6's too as I've been a fan of an inline 6 since my Z car.
BTW Bernie, it took me almost a year to do my rebuild as well but it's sweet to be back on the road again :-)

Subject: [Supras] Why are we like we are?

Here we are in our own small universe, fixing up, cursing, and "sometimes" enjoying the fruits of our labor in making MkIII Supras work. In the course of our daily lives, we live, eat and breathe Supras.

Yet, I find my self wonderning why. True, many of this on the list are young, have little money, and are eager to learn how to make an almost 20 year old car go fast. But yet others of us are fortunate enough to be able to afford a new or newer car which will outrun, outhandle, and outlast the Supra for around $30K or less. True, the Supra has the looks, but is that everything?

This month marks one year since my '90 had a BHG, and I'm still working on a JDM engine to install. I find myself asking: why? Why am I going through valve refinishing, short block assembly. complex piping on the exterior of the engine, only to face the task of doing a swap in a car that already has rust bubbles, upholstery with the fabric over the welting worn away, a car into which I'm pouring enough money for a sizable chunk of money for a new car?

When I first saw the Pontiac GTO I was revulsed by the looks. But as time goes on, it suddenly does not look so bad. 400 HP, IRS and a decent warranty all for about $30K?

I'd really appreciate other's view about this philosophical question. Thanks.
