Hello all, this is a bit OT, but it's Toyota related and will hopefully
provide some good general information.
I had the fuel tank rust out on my '95 T100 w/3.4L V6. I bought a used
tank from a part of the country where rust isn't a problem. I replaced the
tank and reused the fuel pump. I replaced all the lines from the fuel
filter(under driver's door) all the way to and including the tank.
My problem is that after I replaced all of this the truck does not
start right. It used to rev up to about 1500rpm IIRC when cold and then
fall back to normal within a short amount of time. I can assume this is
done by the ECU to get oil flowing quickly, etc. It no longer does this
when cold. It will start but runs at <1000rpm. If I then shut the truck
off and try to restart, it will not start. If I tap on the throttle a
bit while trying to start it though it will start and appears to run
ok.
I have not driven it yet, I have only run it stationary. I have
bypassed the fuel filter temporarily to remove that question from my
mind. I have hooked up a FP gauge where the fuel filter was. It runs
about 38psi which is correct according to Haynes (all I have for this
truck). If I pinch off the line to the rail the pressure spikes as
expected. I don't see the pump being my issue, but I'm completely lost.
Could I have caused this by changing the tank/lines? Or is it just
terrible luck and I'm looking in the wrong place. Thanks in advance
guys and gals. This is not how I wanted to spend Turkey Day! :)
