40 to 50 lb-ft is not the final story in how much torque a conventional LSD can transmit to each wheel. Don't forget that the action of the spider gears tends to spread the side gears in the differential housing apart, adding to the clutch pack force. So in use, a conventional LSD can equalize wheel driving torques more than the static test described.
The customary angle at which gear teeth meet is 20 degrees, known at the "pressure angle". 14-1/2 degrees may also be used, but is an older standard. For 20 degree pressure angle between the spider and side gears, about 34% of the spider gear tooth force is applied to compressing the clutch packs.
