Take the car to an A/C shop....
There is a low pressure switch on nearly every (maybe every) car made and
the fact that he didn't know to bypass this switch scares me.
Some newer cars have a control in the ECM that won't allow the compressor to
turn on after the pressure gets to low and you need a scanner to reset this
but this feature appeared well after the Mk3 went out of production.
He should know this. He may be a good tech with other things but just not
schooled in A/C.

Subject: [Supras] Trouble shoot A/C compressor
Good morning all,
My A/C quit working. I've had a slow leak that
required a can of R12 every other year or so. I took
it to my favorite mechanic and was told the compressor
was not kicking on. I was told there was a good amount
of R12 in the system (90lbs) so the two cans of R12 I
supplied were not needed. They belived the low
pressure switch was not allowing the compressor to
kick on but could not add more R12 without the
compressor kicking on. Can you say catch-22?
I've been going to this shop for a while but I've
never met the guy that worked on it this time.
Just wanting other's opinion on my situation.
Thanks
Chris
