I think you should spend the extra money and go with a metal headgasket. I learned this for myself, the OEM replacment still blows.

Subject: [Supras] finally ready to fix my BHG and drive the Supra again . . . a few questions

Most of you all probably don't remember me, but I've been on the list
since '99. I haven't posted much, because my poor car has been sitting
idle while I'm busy raising kids, remodeling my house, etc. I might
finally have a chance this weekend to start in on the long list of items
my car needs.

A quick history & plan: it's an '89 turbo 5 sp. First & foremost is a
blown headgasket. I'm putting a new stock gasket & new stock bolts back
in, with future plans for modest HP mods (<300). I have to helicoil the
exhaust studs, fix my knock sensor wire, fix a coolant leak, fix my vsv,
put on HKS turbo cat back, get a new downpipe & cat, etc. etc. I plan
to get the head off this weekend & take it from there.

I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions, but I appreciate in
advance all the help I know I'll get! My first question is about the
gasoline. I last filled up the tank almost 2 years ago. I put in
Sta-bil, 92 octane. Is there any chance this gas is still OK to run? I
know it loses octane over time, but I know our cars can run on 87 (at
least when the knock sensor is working!). I'm hoping it will be OK to
at least get it running & a slow cruise. If it runs good, I may empty
the tank & get fresh gas, but I'd rather not unless you guys (& gals)
think I need to drain it first.

Thanks in advance . . . I'm diving in!
