[Supras] mk3 cooling fans

Dunno about that. Back in the day I switched to an electric fan to test this. I have the old dyno sheets of the red car with the 7MGE+turbo. The mechanical fan, when fully clutched, showed a 3 RWHP drop from no mechanical fan. Some of the hp loss can be attributed to the fact that we had to run the coolant up to 240 degrees (we used a cover in front of the radiator) to get the fan to completely clutch for any length of time. There was negligable difference between the electric and the mechanical otherwise. However, with the mechanical fan the coolant stays right at the thermostat rating. The car will warm up faster with an electric and on extremely warm days there will be a performance increase with an electric however, the mechanical fan moves far more air and is pretty much bullet proof if the clutch is in good shape.

I wrote the original Black Magic install and I maintain to this day that the
removal of the stock fan & clutch was one of the best mods I ever did to my
Supra.

The performance gain was significant...imagine keeping your air conditioner in
the on position for a week. Then take the compressor compressor and belt
completely off your car for the following week. The performance gain is so
clearly recognizable! Not to mention the improved cooling. Keeping the stock
fan shroud is key!

Jeff
