[Supras] HAVE Symptoms - NEED Problem

I HOPE you are as lucky as I was:

The problem with mine was the same thing, except for the greasy stuff in the
radiator.
45-60 minutes on the Highway would have the temp gauge reaching for the
upper nether regions
where no temp gauge should be allowed to go.

After a lot of questioning in a.a.toyotas, and a post or two here, and
finding a couple sites from Google,
I came to the conclusion my fan clutch was gone. I had a $20 gift card to
AutoZone, so with another $60 I got
an 'inexpensive" <AHEM!> Chinese replacement.

I never knew a fan could roar so much. And, I noticed something else: before
the temp gauge can even climb one notch on the gauge, I can here the fan
coming on and then quieting down again.

A friend of mine who was a Toyota Rep in the 80's and 90's said, warm the
car up and drive it till it starts
overheating, then shut it down and try to spin the fan. There should be a
fair amount of resistance under these conditions.
Mine spun freely, and after I replaced it I did the same test and it was
MUCH harder to turn.

Hopefully, you have caught this in time to save yourself some damage.

Good luck!
